What We Do

Center for Food Safety uses multifaceted strategies, including legal actions, submission of policy comments and public education, to accomplish its goals of curtailing industrial agricultural production methods that harm human health and the environment, and promoting sustainable alternatives.

Legal and policy staff work to monitor and/or alter policies established by the three primary federal agencies involved in regulating the nation's food supply, i.e., the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

CFS also provides technical assistance to numerous legislative initiatives championed by other non-profit organizations around the country.  Public outreach and advocacy staff work to educate and activate CFS members and consumers about key food and agriculture actions and issues, and to mobilize their support for all CFS legal, policy and grassroots actions.  CFS's True Food Network is our grassroots action network, and is a resource for anyone interested in learning more about important food issues and voicing their opinion!
